New Special Needs Rugby Team for Terenure College RFC

ImageTerenure College RFC launches new Special Needs Rugby Initiative

I was delighted to learn of this fantastic new idea in our community club just after Christmas. It is the culmination of much background work, research and collaboration with the representative bodies in rugby, North and South.

The first training session for any interested young men and women aged 7-16 years will take place on Sunday 26th January 2014 at 12 noon. As it is a brand new idea within the club, the first few sessions will be a learning process for all as the organisers see what ages, abilities and potential players turn up! The organisers tell me that they have no criteria for special needs, just any child who feels they may not be able for a mainstream group through physical, intellectual, or sensory issues.

As manager of the Under 10’s Team in the club’s mini rugby, I really look forward to being on the sidelines for the first session and cheering and welcoming our new players on.

Well done to all involved!

Hi Samantha just came across this as have been looking for something for my son for the last 6months to get into rugby. He is 6 in June would you think if we went along would we be able to see if the organisers would allow for him to take part. As we have no club that is able to start this down in our area.

    Thanks
    Darren

    • Hi Darren,
Thanks for the enquiry – James Nolan and Bernard Molloy are the volunteer organisers. Give me your email address and/or phone number and one of them will contact you in next day or two. If you don’t mind my asking, what are the nature of your son’s special needs? Many thanks for getting in touch, Samantha

  2. Hi Samantha,
This would be perfect for someone I know!! Is there an email or phone number where I could get more details please? Many thanks! Susan

    • Hello Susan,

Thanks for asking – I manage the Under 10’s and am a huge supporter of this initiative. James Nolan is one of the organisers of the special needs team “The Terenure Tigers”. His number is 087 2565936. Good luck to the budding player! Regards,Samantha
